On Friday, February 10, 2012, six extremely accomplished individuals and one outstanding team will be honored with induction into the East Stroudsburg Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame.  This year's honorees will include (above, left to right) Denise (Cole) Rogers, Kane Furst, Kanei Keitt, Frank Manhart, Kim Reinhardt and Kevin Smiley, as well as the 1955 East Stroudsburg Cavalier Lehigh Northampton League and District XI Championship Baseball Team.  To read about their wonderful accomplishments, or if you like, to get information on how to nominate others for consideration, please click on the following LINK.

 

Timberwolf senior Jarrel Bobb recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Lafayette College, and will be a member of the Leopards' track and field team.  Celebrating this wonderful occasion with Jarrel were Mr. Chuck Dailey, North Associate Athletic Director, Jarrel's family Mr. Rondell Bobb, Mrs. Tonette Bobb and Kianna Bobb, and T-wolf Head Basketball Coach and former Head Track Coach Kevin Kennedy.

 

Cavalier Head Rifle Coach Jay Armitage (on left) and Assistant Rifle Coach Gary Lesoine (on right) proudly frame South rifle team members (l-r) Brian Moeller and George Searfoss, following the Cavs' successful performance in the Northeast Pennsylvania Rifle League's "All-Star Tournament."  Brian placed 6th in the individual competition, while George and Brian finished 3rd in the team competition.

 

Senior Tara Steakin (on right) recently became the 8th girl in East Stroudsburg (now South) basketball history to score more than 1,000 points during her Cavalier basketball career.  Celebrating this wonderful accomplishment with Tara were her sister Gina (Cavalier girls' basketball, Class of 2009), her mom Sue, her dad Frank and her sister Lisa (currently a Cavalier sophomore) .  Congratulations Tara!!  

 

Timberwolf senior Marissa Miro recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa, and will be a member of the Hawkeyes' field hockey team.  Celebrating this wonderful occasion with Marissa were Timberwolf Head Field Hockey Coach Holly Eich, Marissa's family Charlie Miro, Mr. Nelson Miro and Mrs. Dinelia Miro, Mr. Chuck Dailey, North Associate Athletic Director and North Assistant Principal Mrs. Carolyn Krotowski.

 

In recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and contributions in the classroom, in their communities and in interscholastic athletic competition, East Stroudsburg-South High School seniors Emma Menio and Joshua Cohen were recently honored by the Mountain Valley Conference as "MVC Scholar-Athletes" for the fall, 2011 sports season.  Celebrating the accomplishments of these wonderful young people were (l-r) Dr. Gregory Menio (Emma's dad), Emma Menio (MVC Girls' Volleyball Scholar-Athlete), Mrs. Dawn Dailey (High School-South Assistant Principal), Sharon Deibler (Cavalier Head Cross Country Coach), Joshua Cohen (MVC Boys' Cross Country Scholar-Athlete), Mrs. Maria Cohen and Dr. Robert Cohen (Joshua's parents) and Ryan Leitch (Cavalier Assistant Girls' Volleyball Coach).

 

High School-North Head Field Hockey Coach Holly Eich was recently named "Field Hockey Coach of the Year" by the Pocono Record.  Miss Eich's Timberwolves competed in the Mountain Valley Conference Championship Game as well as the District XI playoffs this past season.  Congratulations Coach Holly Eich!

 

Freshman twin sisters Brittany and Kaitlyn Poje recently earned the District XI Girls' Tennis Doubles Championship, the first in East Stroudsburg-South Cavalier girls' tennis history.  Photo above left (l-r), Brittany, Coach Elaine Bedell and Kaitlyn bask in the glow of their championship victory over the duo from Parkland High School, at center court at Allentown's West End Racquet Club; while above right (l-r), Kaitlyn and Brittany are interviewed by TV reporters.  Just a few days before, the girls who just recently celebrated their 14th birthdays, also placed second (Brittany) and fourth (Kaitlyn) in District XI Singles competition.

 

Coach Elaine Bedell's Cavalier girls' tennis team recently captured the Mountain Valley Conference Girls' Tennis Tournament Championship, demolishing their competition by placing first in five of the six classifications.  The Lady Cavs placed second in the lone category that they did not win.  Winning gold medals for South were: Brittany Poje (#1 Singles), Kaitlyn Poje (#2 Singles), Celine Comacho (#3 Singles), Anna Long/Sabryna Hunt (#2 Doubles) and Mackenzie Strunk/Elaina Clarke (#4 Doubles).  For good measure, the #3 Doubles team of Nicole Fryer and Melissa Banks earned a silver medal on this, an unprecedented banner day for the ladies in the Purple and the White.  For good measure, the Lady Cavs finished the Mountain Valley Conference season undefeated, then bested both Liberty and Freedom in advancing to the District XI Team Tennis Championship match vs. Parkland--earning the silver medal.  The Cavs are indeed pioneers, having advanced further and accomplishing more than any girls' tennis team in the 30-year history of East Stroudsburg High School girls' tennis.  CONGRATLUATIONS LADY CAVS!! 

 

In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments and contributions in the classroom, in her community and in interscholastic athletic competition, East Stroudsburg Area School District senior Kelsey Bower was recently honored by the Mountain Valley Conference as "MVC Scholar-Athlete" for the spring, 2011 sports season.  Celebrating the accomplishments of this wonderful student-athlete were (l-r) ESASD Director of Athletics and Activities Mark Brown, Kelsey's father Mr. Robert Bower, MVC Girls' Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Kelsey Bower, Kelsey's twin sister Mariah, High School-South Head Girls' Track and Field Coach John Finelli and Cavalier Associate Athletic Director Armand Martinelli.

 

 

Cavalier swimmers Lena Yang and Lacey Anger celebrate receiving the medals that they earned at the recent District XI Swimming and Diving Championships, held at Parkland High School.  Lena, a junior, earned a bronze medal by placing third in the 100 butterfly (photo, left), and also earned a silver medal by placing second in the 50 freesyle (photo, right).  Lacey, a senior, earned a silver medal by placing second in the 100 breaststroke (photo, center).  Not only did the girls achieve personal bests at this prestigious event, Lacey set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke, while Lena set Cavalier school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle.  Both Lena and Lacey have now qualified to compete in the P.I.A.A. State Swim Meet at Bucknell University.  Congratulations!! 

 

In recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and contributions in the classroom, in their community and in interscholastic athletic competition, East Stroudsburg Area School District seniors Anna Gress and Cody Johnson were recently honored by the Mountain Valley Conference as "MVC Scholar-Athletes" for the winter, 2010-2011 sports season.  Celebrating the accomplishments of these two wonderful student-athletes were (l-r) High School-South Head Swimming Coach Adam Coffman, Anna's father and mother Robert and Heather Gress, MVC Girls' Swimming Scholar-Athlete Anna Gress, MVC Wrestling Scholar-Athlete Cody Johnson, Cody's mother Patricia Johnson, High School-North Head Wrestling Coach Michael Stalker, North Assistant Principal Carolyn Krotowski and T-Wolf Associate Athletic Director Chuck Dailey.  Anna and Cody are members of the Cavalier swimming and Timberwolf wrestling teams, respectively.
