These students have already received industry recognition in their area of study.
Sol Lurie, a Holocaust survivor of six concentration camps in four years, spoke recently to the 8th grade students at Lehman Intermediate about his horrific experiences as a teenager in concentration camps during the Nazi's reign of terror. Mr. Ware's 11th grade advanced placement English class at North High School arranged for Lurie's visit. Later that day, students presented lessons to Lehman students about the Holocaust.
Veterans of Foreign Wars visited with Mr. Coppola's English 11 classes to discuss their experiences in the Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan Wars. The Veterans addressed the issues and questions students had about the Walter Dean Myer's novel, Fallen Angels, as well as their questions about war and combat in general. On April 25 and 26, 2014, Drexel University's Daskalakis Athletic Center pool will be home to more than 800 middle and high school students competing against each other in a robotics challenge to build remotely operated robots. The underwater robotics competition, known as the Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch Challenge, is an annual regional qualifying competition that sends its winners on to the National Sea Perch Competition in Hattiesburg, MS.
