Timberwolf senior Mike Guyer was recently presented the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation "Scholar-Athlete Award," at a banquet held at the Northampton Community Center.  Mike (above, center), who will attend Princeton University, played center this fall for the T-Wolves and is currently ranked #1 academically in his High School-North senior class.  Mike was selected from among nominees from 33 other schools from P.I.A.A. District XI (encompassing all school districts from Carbon, Schuylkill, Monroe, Northampton and Lehigh Counties), and is the first football player in East Stroudsburg Area School District history to receive this award.  Celebrating this outstanding accomplishment with Mike were (l-r) Mike's parents Michael and Dorothy Guyer, former NFL Super Bowl Champion coaching great Dick Vermeil (the banquet's guest speaker) and Timberwolf Head Football Coach Chuck Dailey.

In recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and contributions in the classroom, in their community and in interscholastic athletic competition, two High School-South seniors were recently honored by the Mountain Valley Conference as "MVC Scholar-Athletes" for the winter, 2009-2010 sports season.  Brian McLaughlin (wrestling) and John Favini (boys' swimming) were joined by their coaches, family and Mountain Valley Conference administrators, at a luncheon, held at the Pleasant Valley School District Administration Center.  Pictured above (l-r) are Cavalier Head Wrestling Coach Randy Litts, Mr. Rob McLaughlin (Brian's Dad), Brian McLaughlin, Mrs. Diane McLaughlin (Brian's Mom), Cavalier Head Swimming Coach Adam Coffman, John Favini, Mrs. Laurie Favini (John's Mom), Dr. Peter Favini (John's Dad), and High School-South Principal Mrs. Lois Palio.  Also in attendance (but not pictured) were High School-North Associate Athletic Director Chuck Dailey and ESASD Director of Athletics and Activities Mark Brown.

Timberwolf swimmers Daniel Woods, Zack Brower, Lou Montante and Stephen Vazquez surround Coach Dina Doyle as they celebrate their 4th place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay at the District XI Swimming Championships at Parkland High School.  They broke the North school records in the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays during the 2-day event.

Coach Adam Cole and his Cavalier girls' basketball team celebrate their victory over Pocono Mt. West in the Mountain Valley Conference championship game, the third in the last four years for Coach Cole and the Lady Cavs.

Three High School-South seniors celebrated "National Signing Day" by inking national letters of intent, to continue their academic and athletic careers next fall at the next level.  (l-r) Greg Kessel, Sam Bergen and Dan Cason have committed to matriculate and play football at Lafayette College, Rutgers University and Colgate University, respectively.  Greg, Sam and Dan were mainstays on this fall's Mountain Valley Conference Champion and District 2/4/11 Sub-Regional Semi-Finalist Cavalier football team.

Carly Gallagher, a senior at High School-South, has broken the school's girls' basketball career scoring record...a mark that has stood for 18 years.  Carly accomplished this feat in the Cavs 44-41 victory over Pocono Mountain West.  Interestingly, the record that Carly broke (1,692 points) was set in 1992 by Stacy Perryman, who is currently the very successful head girls' basketball coach at Pocono Mountain West.  Carly finished the game with 22 points and her career total now stands at 1,704 points.  Carly needs 32 points to break Stacy's late brother Arthur's school record of 1,735 points, in order to become the East Stroudsburg (South) career scoring leader.  Pictured above, l-r, are East Stroudsburg Area School District Superintendent Sharon Laverdure, Stacy Perryman, Carly Gallagher and the Cavaliers' Head Girls' Basketball Coach Adam Cole.

Coach Kevin Kennedy's Timberwolf boys' basketball team won its third consecutive championship in the Stephen E. Faller Holiday Basketball Tournament, held at Delaware Valley High School.  North defeated Kittatinny Regional 50-27 in the tournament semifinal, then edged the host Warriors 42-40 in the championship game.

Coach Ed Christian's Cavalier football team recently earned their third consecutive Mountain Valley Conference Championship; their sixth such crown in seven years.  The Cavs, who advanced to the District 2/4/11 Sub-Regional Semi-Finals with a stunning 49-20 victory over defending PIAA State Champion Liberty, capped off an outstanding 11-win, 2-loss season with a 42-0 victory over Stroudsburg on Thanksgiving morning on the turf at beautiful East Stroudsburg Memorial Stadium.

The Mountain Valley Conference recently held a luncheon, at which seven students were honored as MVC Scholar-Athletes for the fall, 2009 sports season.  Three of these extremely well-accomplished young people hail from the East Stroudsburg Area School District.  High School-North field hockey player Neena Black (left, with plaque), High School-North cross country runner Alyssa Kennedy (center, with plaque) and High School-South cross country runner John Favini (right, with plaque) were joined at this wonderful celebration of athletic, civic and academic excellence, by (l-r) T-Wolf head field hockey coach Holly Eich, Neena's parents Edward and Lisa Black, T-Wolf cross country coach David Pilz, Alyssa's parents Kevin and Heidi Kennedy, Cav cross country coach Sharon Deibler, John's father Dr. Peter Favini, and South and North High School principals Lois Palio and Stephen Zall, respectively.  Also in attendance (not pictured) were North associate athletic director Chuck Dailey and ESASD Director of Athletics and Activities Mark Brown.

Coach Brian Mitchell's Lehman Intermediate School football team recently completed their second consecutive undefeated season.  The little T-Wolves have won 20 straight games, and finished the third perfect season during Coach Mitchell's tenure as head coach.
