NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)

NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) are computerized adaptive assessments that are aligned to state standards. MAP tests provide highly accurate results that can be used to identify the skills and concepts individual students have learned and monitor academic growth over time. The assessment itself is unique in that it adapts to the student's ability, accurately measuring what a child knows and needs to learn. MAP tests measure academic growth over time, independent of grade level or age. East Stroudsburg School District administers NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) twice a year, in grades K-12. Information is sent to parents, which documents students’ achievement and progress.

NWEA assessments use a measurement scale, which is divided into equal parts, called a RIT Range. NWEA uses the RIT scales to measure a student’s academic growth over time. A higher score represents a student’s ability to perform more complex skills and understand more difficult concepts. RIT scores generally range from 100 to 300, depending on the subject.

DesCartes Continuum of Learning

By clicking on the links above, you can access the DesCartes Continuum of Learning. The DesCartes Continuum orders skills and concepts by achievement level. These links are provided to help you better understand your child’s progress in learning specific reading and math areas.

The continuum is presented in a three-column format. The first column on the left, which is titled Skills and Concepts to Enhance, lists the skills your child has mastered and could be enhanced. The middle column is titled Skills and Concepts to Develop. These concepts are at their current instructional level. The column on the right is titled Skills and Concepts to Introduce. These are concepts that they will be learning in the future.

A review of these assessments through the Descartes Continuum provides a description of each student’s achievement as determined by the NWEA Measures of Progress.
