ESHS Class of 1986…4-year letter winner in gymnastics…gymnastics Most Valuable Athlete Award, 83-84, 84-85, 85-86…HS career included 2 bronze & 1 silver medal in Floor, 3 silver & 1 gold medal on Bars, 2 silver medals in Beam, 2 silver medals in Vault & 2 silver & 1 gold medal in All Around during District XI Gymnastics Meet competition…garnered PIAA State Gymnastics Meet gold medal in Vault & silver medal in All Around, 1986…earned “International Gymnastics” Most Valuable Award, 1984 & 1985…Outstanding Gymnast Award, 1985 & 1986…graduate of Clarion University…earned silver medal (All Around), bronze medal (Bars) & gold medal (Floor) at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Gymnastics Meet, 1987.

 


Richard C. (Dick) Merring

ESHS Class of 1953…as player at ESHS, served as team captain & named All-State halfback, 1952…played 4 years in college, All-State halfback & “Little All-American” at ESU, 1956…holds ESU records for longest punt return & kick off return (both 98 yards)…coached 4 sports (football, wrestling, baseball & track) at high school, college & professional levels…coached undefeated freshman football team at ESU, 1966…head professional football coach with Pocono Mountaineers & Bozano Italy Giants…head football coach at ESHS, 14 years (1975 undefeated Centennial League Champs, Easton Express regional “Coach of the Year”)…also coached baseball & wrestling at ESHS…highly regarded PIAA softball & wrestling official, 25 years.  



Jerome C. (Jerry) Muys

ESHS Class of 1950, senior class president, third academically, Monroe County Scholar-Athlete award…ESHS varsity football, basketball & baseball, 1947-50…Lehigh-Northampton League high scorer, All-State (basketball), 1950…scholarship to Princeton University, played football, graduated magna cum laude 1954…Stanford Law School grad., 1957…editor, Stanford Law Review…practiced natural resources & environmental law, Washington, DC…taught at Virginia & George Washington University law schools…active in American Bar Association Section of Natural Resources Law (Chair,1980-81)…Special Master for U.S. Supreme Court in Oklahoma and Texas v. New Mexico , 1988-93…listed in “The Best Lawyers in America.”


James E. (Jim) Reynolds

Spent thirty-four years (1964 to 1998) as ESASD health/physical education/driver education teacher (J.M. Hill Elementary School—1964 to 1974, East Stroudsburg Area High School—1974 to 1998), coach (1966 to 1980), department chairperson, director of athletics…assistant football coach, 1966-80 (undefeated Centennial League Championship, 1975)…assistant baseball coach, 1966-69…head baseball coach, 1970-81 (two Lehigh-Northampton League Divisional Baseball Championships— 1972, 1973)…assistant athletic director, 1979-80…East Stroudsburg Area School District Director of Athletics, 1980-98 (two Robert Stimmel “Athletic Director of the Year” Awards, Centennial League—1992 and Mountain Valley Conference—1998).

Ron Spinner

ESHS Class of 1964…3-year starter in baseball—team captain, leading hitter, MVP in 1964…2-year starter in football—captain, MVP in 1963… lettered in wrestling…at Elizabethtown College was 4-year starter & team captain in wrestling, 3-year starter & 2 nd team All-MAC in baseball…as head wrestling coach at Stroudsburg High School, his teams achieved 21 consecutive winning seasons…became the first Monroe County coach to win 300 contests in any sport; his teams currently credited with 330 victories…has been inducted into both the District XI & Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Halls of Fame…in adult baseball, holds the Pocono Mountain Baseball League record for most batting titles with five.


Russell “Lindy” Transue

Graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, Class of 1945…lettered in three sports (football, basketball and baseball)…played quarterback and running back and served as team captain on first ESHS football team (team record: 3-wins, 1-loss), 1944…served as basketball team captain, 1944 and 1945…in baseball, batted .388 in 1944 with a pitching record of 6-wins & 0-losses, 74 strike outs in 49 innings, allowing only 6 earned runs…played professional baseball with Stroudsburg in the Class “D” North Atlantic League, 1948…served as a student member of East Stroudsburg Athletic Council, 1944.
