John E. Casagrande

Director of Bands, ESHS, 1968 through 1978… ESHS band achievements included appearances at PA Music Educators state conventions (2), Mid-East Instrumental Music Conference in Pittsburgh, Eastern Band Conductors' Conferences (2) at the Univ. of Maryland, halftime performances at Buffalo Bills (2) & Phila. Eagles NFL football games…ESHS marching band was featured during the nationally televised King Orange Jamboree Parade viewed by over 30 million on NBC-TV…honors include numerous Citations of Professional Excellence from the National Band Assn. & the Fairfax County Board of Educ., mention in Who's Who in American Education & The International Who's Who in Music and election to the American Bandmasters Association .


Judith Farmer

Began musical training (piano) with her mother (age 5), studying clarinet (age 9) & bassoon (8 th grade) from ESASD Music Hall of Fame instructors Clement Wiedinmyer & John Casagrande …1974 grad. of ESHS, participating in junior, senior, marching, pep and jazz bands, achieving District and Regional honors…BS in Bassoon & Germanic Languages, Indiana Univ., 1978…degree in Bassoon Performance, the Hochschule fuer Musik (Vienna, Austria), 1979…toured as principal bassoonist, Braunschweig, Germany, Cameratica Academica (Salzburg) & Austrian Radio Orchestra (1984-96)…since 1996 has performed regularly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic…currently serves as head instructor of the bassoon studio, University of Southern California.


Stuart Jones

Ph.D (Mellon Fellowship) in Music Composition, Columbia University…studied both music and computer science at Florida State University and SUNY-Stonybrook…founding member of Lumen , a Boston-based new music ensemble…composition prizes include BMI Student Composer Award for “ Storm Dreams ” (violin & piano), International Horn Society Prize for “ Variations ” (horn & percussion)…his compositions have been performed by Lumen , the New York New Music Ensemble , Fear No Music (Seattle), Centre Acanthe (Avignon, France), at the Aspen Music Festival and many other ensembles throughout the United States…maintains active careers in both music and software engineering.


David J. Lantz Jr.

Graduate, East Stroudsburg High School, Class of 1947…trumpet soloist & ESHS Band President…BS, West Chester University, MS, Trenton State College…taught instrumental music, High Bridge (NJ) HS (3 years), Supervisor of Music, West Morris (NJ) HS (32 years)…initiated & developed music programs at West Morris Central, Mount Olive and Mendham (NJ) High Schools …served in the Army during Korean War, trumpeter with the 389 th Army Band & 1 st trumpet with 16 th Army Band…toured with Fred Waring and served as house bassist at Fred Waring's Shawnee Inn, 1960-1969…currently serves as bassist with the New Sussex Symphony , trumpeter with 16-member Swingtime Dance Orchestra and trumpeter with Doug Smith's Dixieland All-Stars.


Melissa Mary Lengua

Graduate, ESHS, Class of 1977…BM with distinction, Music Performance, Converse College, Spartanburg, SC…Artist Certificate, Phila. Acad. of Vocal Arts…ESHS music honors & credits included the Arion Award , Music Study Club Young Artist Scholar , solo performances with County & District Choruses, concert & District Bands…additional honors include Who's Who Among American College & University Students , Music Teachers National Assn. Competition Winner & performances for President George W. Bush Sr. & Gov. of PA Tom Ridge…performance credits include appearances with the Natchez Opera , Dayton Opera , AVA Opera Theater & European concert performances…currently serves as Artistic Director of The Pocono Vocal Arts Society.


Louis Millard

Born, raised in East Stroudsburg…Graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, Class of 1942…began trumpet lessons with legendary, Hall of Fame ESHS band director Clement Wiedinmyer in 1934…member of Mr. Wiedinmyer's inaugural band, as well as ES state championship bands (1940 & 1942)…enlisted in the Navy during World War II…accepted into the prestigious Navy School of Music…served in the Pacific theater on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp…returned to East Stroudsburg after World War II, continuing to play trumpet in local & regional venues, including dance & dinner music in the Poconos & Catskills, the Scranton Symphony & the Delaware Water Gap Jazz Festival …was a founder of the Dixie Gents …passed away on September 7, 2001.
