ESASD Technology Policy Statement

The East Stroudsburg Area School District Board of School Directors has enacted an Acceptable Use Policy and various other technology-related policies to direct the use of Internet, computer, electronic information/data, technology, and online copyrights by students, employees and guests. In addition, the Board has authorized the School District Administration to promulgate administrative regulations, rules, procedures, and forms to manage the policies.

The Acceptable Use Policy (#815) is found here. The Acceptable Use Administrative Regulation(#815 AR) is found here. Students, employees, and guests are required to read, understand, and comply with the Policy and Administrative Regulation, and to direct any questions to their Building Principal and/or designee if they do not understand something.

The Acceptable Use Policy includes information about the purpose for the policy, definitions, authority, responsibilities, delegation of responsibilities, and guidelines for (1) access to the computers, networks, internet, electronic communications, information systems, databases, files, software, and media whether wired, wireless, virtual, cloud, or by other means, (2) parental notification and responsibilities, (3) the School District’s limitation of liability, (4) prohibitions, (5) copyright infringement and plagiarism, (6) the School District’s web site, (7) blogging, (8) safety and privacy, and (9) consequences for inappropriate use. The Administrative Regulation includes (1) examples of general prohibitions, access and security prohibitions, and operational prohibitions, (2) content guidelines, (3) due process information, (4) search and seizure information, (5) selection of materials information, and (6) online etiquette.

This is not to be considered a summary of the Acceptable Use Policy, its accompanying Administrative Regulation, and Acknowledgement and Consent Forms, and other technology-related policies, administrative regulations, and forms. This is not to be considered a replacement for reading the documents. This is a statement requiring you to read the documents and to emphasize the importance of reading them.

Depending on the situation and the individual(s) involved, other School District policies, administrative regulations, rules, procedures, and forms not listed above may be relevant. For example, a student may have used an electronic communication device (Policy # 237) to harass another student in which case the School District’s Student Harassment Policy #248 (and Form) may be applicable also.
