Educational Technology Plan

Dear Community,

Attached you will find the final version of the 2007-2010 Technology Plan for East Stroudsburg Area School District.  The plan is the culmination of one full year of meeting, planning, creating and collaborating by 24 dedicated members of our community.  The committee consisted of parents, students, teachers, administrators, local business leaders and one board member. Committee members were placed in one of four sub-committees according to their areas of expertise while at the same time assuring that we had diversity among each of these sub-committees.

The Committee hopes that you will find this plan progressive, comprehensive and at the same time frugal.  The plan focuses on those areas of technology that are central to the mission of our school district. That mission has not changed.

"East Stroudsburg Area School District, a diverse and rapidly growing community, nurtures within all students a commitment to life-long learning which prepares them to become creative, productive, and responsible citizens in a continually changing world."

Unfortunately, it is the "continually changing world" that makes it so difficult to educate children. Our students will need to exist in a society where technical skills are demanded, the ability to continuously learn is assumed, and competition from all nations will be brought on by increased technology use and globalization.  With thousands of high paying science and technology jobs going unfilled and colleges enrolling fewer math and science students each year there is a huge, unmet need for these skills.  The recent Glenn Commission Report on math and science calls this problem "dangerous to national prosperity and security".  This lack of a skilled, information age, "High-Tech" workforce will have  negative a effect on our local economy and tax-base as well.

While budget restrictions may delay implementation of some phases, we are confident that the plan will serve as our blueprint for student technology advancement in the short term and have a lasting effect on our local and national economies. Thanks to all who participated and thanks to our community for their support of this plan.
