iRock for Haiti

On Wednesday, February 3rd, the JTL community rallied together to aid Haiti after an earthquake devastated the region just three weeks ago. Mr. Toth, JTL computer teacher and lead singer in the iRock band, contacted building principal, Mr. Catrillo, about a way to raise money that would help the people of Haiti, but also make the students realize that when everyone contributes just a little, the end result can be overwhelming.

Mr. Toth contacted guitarist and security guard, Don Moran, and the band began rehearsals immediately. Ryan Bridges, iRock drummer, and Ian Detrick, bassist, were thrilled to be donating their time to such a great cause.  With just three rehearsals the band put together a set list for an assembly that would be held during the school day at JTL. Toth said, “We had such a good team that was able to put a great show together in just a short amount of time.” Mr. Toth’s web design class sold $1 tickets to the event, and in total, raised a staggering $1162.23.

Mr. Toth said, “After speaking with several students who had relatives in Haiti, it really opened my own eyes. I interviewed three students on the morning broadcast of Good Morning JTL, and the response from our students was just phenomenal! People were handing us $5 and we’d start counting out change, and they would simply say ‘Keep it. It’s a good cause.’ I am so impressed with the support our kids gave and they know their efforts are appreciated.” Faculty members were also more than generous and supported our efforts from the start.

All the money collected is being donated to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti..
