The Good Morning JTL Cast goes to NYC

The Good Morning JTL annual trip to the NBC Studios tour occurred on Wednesday, February 27th. The entire cast had the opportunity to go into NYC and learn about television broadcasting. The day started out with a very quick ride into the city. A trip which usually takes 2 and a half hours, only took 1 hour and fifteen minutes. This was great, because it gave the entire cast the chance to go to the Today Show studio in Rockefeller Plaza. We were able to see Meredith Vera, who actually waved to us, and Matt Laurer do various segments. Our cast was featured on the actual show as the cameraman caught a glimpse of us outside the studio waving and yelling. After our stop at the Today Show, we headed to various spots in Rockefeller Plaza to take some video footage for a new introduction that will be broadcast soon.  We had a lot of fun, and even had the chance to get a few doormen in on the action! Everyone treated us very well.

We took some time looking around the NBC Studio store. We were able to buy some items from great shows on NBC like Saturday Night Live, Scrubs, ER, and 30 Rock. Our tour started and we were not allowed to take pictures or photos, but we can tell you that we had the opportunity to get on the Conan O’Brien set, and our favorite set, Saturday Night Live. The sound stages were cool to see because you get a totally different perspective of how big or small they really are. We also learned that Conan will be taking over for Jay Leno in 2009, and rumor has it that Jimmy Fallon will be taking over the Conan show. The NBC pages were excellent, and shared many unknown facts about the building with us.

After the tour, our bus driver took us down to 26th street where we eat lunch at McDonald’s. It was the only place Jorge Santiago would eat, so we figured that place would work best! The MARTHA Show was only half a block away. We ate lunch and got to the MARTHA studio in time to get checked in. While we waited for seating in the actual studio, we had the chance to write a questions that we would be able to ask Martha live on the show. Brooke Robinson was lucky to be able to ask her a question during the show. The show was taped, and it is scheduled to be played back on national TV on Monday, March 10th. It is part of an Easter segment that Martha is doing this month. Joey, a great stand up comedian, kept us entertained and had us oooing and ahhing the entire show. He is excellent at making the audience feel welcome. He had several GMJTL cast members dancing, clapping, and as a reward, we all walked away with all different kinds of gifts.

After the show, it was a dash to the bus to beat the traffic rush home. It was a tiring 12 hour day, but we got a chance to be on TV and learned a great deal about the world of television broadcasting.
