Art Curriculum
Art
Content Standards
The
nature of the art curriculum is such that a unit is introduced and practiced
through out the school year. My goal is to challenge students to think,
problem solve, and create personally meaningful art works. The visual
arts are rich in a variety of tools and techniques. We can choose from
sculpture, painting, drawing, print making, computer graphics, and many
other art forms to accomplish specific educational objectives. The visual
arts curriculum contains standards that help students to learn about the
visual arts and the visual expression necessary to reflect their ideas
and evaluate their efforts. Art education identifies, nourishes, and expands
the essence of the child's inner self. It is because of the nature of
the discipline that the curriculum cannot be departmentalized into being
taught only certain weeks. The marking period assignments for each grade
level are approximate guidelines for the chronology of each teaching unit/content
standard. The chronology, not the content, is subject to change.
The
following table lists a basic chronology for when each unit/content standard
is introduced. Below you will find details within each unit for each grade
level.
