Resica Elementary was founded in 1994 on the hypothesis that arts integration facilitates learning. Teachers were chosen not only for their expertise in education, but for their knowledge and use of the arts in their teaching. In 1999 Resica Elementary was recognized nationally by the President's Committee for the Arts and Humanities and the Arts Education Partnership as an exemplary school for arts integration in education. One of only ninety schools chosen nationwide to receive this honor, Resica Elementary was lauded for its collaboration with East Stroudsburg University on their teacher preparation program and for its working relationship with Binney and Smith (Crayola). Resica continues to maintain high standards in education and arts integration. Student writing and artwork has been published in Troll Book Club Publication Why I'm Proud to Be An American) and WBRE Channel 28 Weather Art . The Arts in Education Committee is a voluntary faculty committee that has been instrumental in providing information to parents. This committee is dedicated to the promotion of ongoing integration of the arts at Resica and in the surrounding community. This group encourages collaboration with parents, community members, administration, faculty, staff, and the university personnel in the creation and sharing of art with children to facilitate academic, social and emotional growth. The Arts in Education Committee has also organized various opportunities for students to demonstrate their art expertise in class activities. These projects include the Storybook Cookbook, Caring Quilts for Kids, the Scarecrow Contest, the Outdoor Classroom Stepping Stone Project and the First Grade Castle Contest. The Arts in Education Committee is collaborating on the development of Resica's Website and will be publishing photos of the various ways arts are integrated in concept areas. The Arts in Education Committee has given various presentations at Resica for parents and faculty on arts integration. They have also presented at East Stroudsburg University to undergraduate students, preservice teachers and early childhood educators at the NAEYC conference on arts integration theory and practices.
