                                                  Kindergarten Screening

                                                    May 24 and 25, 2005

Thank you for joining us today for your child's kindergarten screening. The process of the screening is quite simple. Your child will go with one of our teachers, when his or her name is called, and will demonstrate the degree to which he or she can count, identify letters and numbers, copy shapes, write his or her name, identify letter sounds, etc. As you wait for your child to return, or his or name to be called, you will meet with a nurse to review your child's medical needs, immunizations, etc.
On the average, your child's kindergarten screening will last 20 minutes. Once your child has been screened and you have met with one of the nurses, you may leave. Within approximately 3 - 5 days you will receive a call only if we feel that due to your child's performance and responses, we would like to re-screen your child in August to determine his or her readiness for kindergarten. If you do not receive a phone call, then we feel your child is ready to begin school in August. For children who may be somewhat hesitant about attending school, or who may benefit for some "honing" of skills, we will be conducting a summer program. We will be inviting students to this program via a mailing in June. The program will be held from July 12 through August 4, 2005, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The program begins at 9:30 A.M. and ends at 11:00 A.M.
Today, your child is receiving a welcome bag and a packet of activities to work on during the summer months. The activities are of varying difficulty, in order to address the diverse ability levels of the children. Any help you can give to provide your child with a head start is greatly appreciated. Tasks such as tying shoes, zippering, identifying and writing his/her name, counting, identifying letters, following simple directions, and paying attention to tasks for short periods of time are very helpful. Lastly, anything you can do to make school an exciting and positive experience will certainly help to quell any apprehension you child may have.

                                          Important Dates and Times

As always, the line for morning and afternoon kindergarten is dependant upon the number of students for each session. The final decision is made by the first week of August. During this week, you will receive a letter form us informing you of the session your child will attend. At this time students who live between Pocono Forested Acres and Leisure Lands, and from Creek Estates to Otter Lake will attend A.M. Those who live in any other area of our attendance area will attend P.M. The questionable area is always from Deer Track to Crown Point.

Thank you for your attention and we will see you in August!
