Mr. Featherman's Visit

On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, Mr. Roland Featherman paid a visit to Mrs. Visser's 3rd grade class.  Mr. Featherman who first began losing his eyesight in 3rd grade, explained what is is like to be a vision impaired person in a "Vision Centered" world.

The students were suprised to hear that Mr. Featherman not only finished high school, but then moved on to receive first an undergraduate, then a graduate degree in Social Work and Psychology.  Additionally, they found that through a positive attitude and determination, Mr. Featherman has become a very influencial person in our county, and continues to work in Harrisburg to further support individuals with disablities.

Mr. Feather explains how a cane is used.

Mr. Featherman  demonstrates the left to right sweeping motion of the cane.

The students have a lot of questions for Mr. Featherman!

The page Mr. Featherman is holding is an agenda that has been written in Braille for him.

The students were amazed at the technology available.  This particular unit

identifies clothing color.

Another tool used is one that tells the denomination of money...usually!
