Kindergarten - Vocal Music

 

Music is a very integrated subject to teach. Therefore, it would possible during any music class to observe several of the music curriculum items being addressed. The following is only a VERY basic outline of which curriculum items will be taught each quarter. Some of the curriculum items are difficult to departmentalize since they are being taught in an ongoing process.

 

FIRST QUARTER: Students will demonstrate

  • a repertoire of short songs.
  • listening skills through short musical examples.
  • steady beat and strong beat.
  • different voices using echo and imitation.
  • rhythm patterns of sound/silence and long/short on instruments and body percussion.
  • music concepts through body movements.

 

SECOND QUARTER: Students will demonstrate

  • a repertoire of short songs.
  •  listening skills through short musical examples.
  • steady beat.
  • different voices using echo and imitation.
  •   rhythm patterns on instruments and body percussion.
  • music concepts through body movements.
  • high/low and repeated pitches.
  • same/different parts of music.

THIRD QUARTER: Students will demonstrate

  •   a repertoire of short songs.
  •  listening skills through short musical examples.
  •  steady beat.
  • different voices using echo and imitation.
  •  rhythm patterns on instruments and body percussion.
  •  music concepts through body movements.
  •  music at various tempos.
  • loud and soft (dynamics) with voices and instruments.

 

FOURTH QUARTER: Students will demonstrate

  • a repertoire of short songs.
  • listening skills through short musical examples.
  • steady beat.
  • different voices using echo and imitation.
  • rhythm patterns on instruments and body percussion.
  • music concepts through body movements.
  • a knowledge of the unique sounds of voices and instruments.

  • knowledge of reading and writing rhythm patterns

  • musical concepts through body movement

  • a knowledge of the Music Staff and melodic contour

  • creation in music

 

THIRD QUARTER: Students will demonstrate

  • steady beat and strong beat

  • different voices through echo and imitation

  • rhythm patterns on instruments and body percussion

  • musical concepts through body movement

  • same/different parts of music

  • music at various tempo markings

  • loud/soft dynamic markings using voices and instruments

  • If you are reading this, please notify your child's music teacher… they will get an “E” for the quarter!
