Resica Elementary and P.D.S

Resica Elementary + East Stroudsburg University = Enhanced Learning Opportunities

Resica Elementary School began its venture with E.S.U. and Professional Development Schools in 1999.  Resica, along with J.M. Hill Elementary, ventured into this opportunity because we saw a wonderful way to truly impact the learning opportunities presented to our students, and as a vehicle to begin strengthening the teaching experiences that pre-service teachers received.

Resica began with approximately 3 teachers taking on the challenge of a P.D.S. student.  We say "a challenge" because, as with any new venture, we had a wonderful vision, but a lot of uncertainty as to how it should be structured.

Since its inception, the vision and structure of the Professional Development School has grown by leaps and bounds!  Through the ongoing support and diligence of Mrs. Nancy Daniels, our liaison between Resica and E.S.U., we have been able to provide numerous classrooms each year for P.D.S. apprentices to gain valuable experience.

One of the most wonderful benefits of P.D.S. is the fact that the student returns to our school and the mentor teacher during his/her second placement in student teaching.

Our P.D.S. students truly become one of our Resica family members during their time with us.  Many of the students, during both their P.D.S. semester and again during their student teaching semester participate in many of our school functions and events.  They have brought, and continue to bring, creative and innovative ideas to share with our students and staff, and they in turn receive many "realistic", informative and challenging opportunities to learn and grow!
