P.S.S.A General Math Rubric

(4 Point Rubric)

   Advanced (4): The correct answer with the correct procedures/correct calculations are shown or described and a written explanation that supports the work is shown. The explanation tells what was done in the solution process and explains why the steps were done (or the reason(s) for the steps to be taken). Explanations that meet these criteria fully communicate, represent and provide solid reasoning for the process used to solve the problem.

   Proficient (3): The correct answer with correct procedure/correct calculations are shown or described and a written explanation, which supports some of the work, is shown.

   Basic (2): The correct answer with few procedures/calculations are shown or described, or some explanation is provided. Many steps are missing and the explanation is difficult to follow.

    The incorrect answer is provided with half or more than half of the correct procedures shown or described and some or no explanation is provided. The student either did not proceed far enough or proceeded incorrectly.

    The incorrect answer with correct procedures is shown or described; however no explanation is provided. The student may not make more than 2 calculation or copying errors.

   Below Basic (1): The correct answer is provided; however, the calculations, procedures or explanations are either not legible, not understandable or missing too much information.
