1 st Quarter: Oceans

  1. Identifies factors causing ocean water movement including temperature, currents (deep and surface), waves (formations, parts of), and tides
  2. Identifies ocean floor features
  3. Identifies oceanographic tools including scuba gear, submersibles
  4. Identifies how ocean organisms adapt to environment (survival techniques)

 

2 nd Quarter: Simple Machines

  1. Identifies the six simple machines: inclined planes, levers, wedge, screws, wheel and axle, pulleys

3 rd Quarter: Force and Motion

  1. Define and calculate average speed
  2. Identify objects in motion and demonstrate difference between distance, speed, velocity, acceleration
  3. Identify different types of forces (humans, wind, gravity, magnetism)
  4. Identify energy and its forms (potential, kinetic)
  5. Identify friction and conduct related experiments
  6. Define work and apply scientific formula
  7. Identify and apply Newton 's Laws of Motion in related experiments

4 th Quarter: Plants

  1. Classify parts of a flowering plant: roots, stems, leaves, flowers
  2. Identify plants and plant products
  3. Classify types of trees and tree parts
  4. Identify photosynthesis, transpiration, respiration
  5. Identify plant adaptations
  6. Describe plant reproduction
  7. Identify the life-cycle of a seed plant
