Mission Statement

The Smithfield Elementary learning community builds responsible citizens and instills respect for self and others in a safe learning environment that encourages problem solving through cooperation and individual excellence.

Overview

Smithfield Elementary School opened in 1927, as the Smithfield Consolidated School . Since then, several additions have been made to the original structure, providing additional classrooms, a multi-purpose room, and an administrative office and health suite. Smithfield currently houses approximately 454 students in kindergarten through grade five. The main building encompasses approximately 30,000 square feet, providing 17 classrooms. In addition to the classrooms in the main building there are 14 modular classrooms. We also take pride in being a character education driven school. We use the second step character education program and do monthly activities associated with the district's words of the month. We also have a character education bulletin board and a very active character education committee. Thanks for visiting the site.

Directions

Take Exit 310 off Interstate Route 80 and make the first left to River Road . Proceed on River Road at STOP sign bear right. Smithfield Elementary is located on the right hand side of the roadway.

If coming from the Administration Center area, proceed north on North Courtland Street (Business Route 209) to the red light (intersection with Route 447), turn right onto Route 447 and proceed to the intersection with Traffic Route 209. Turn left and proceed on Route 209 until it intersects Hillside Drive on the right hand side of the roadway. Turn right onto Hillside Drive , proceed to the STOP sign, bear right and proceed to and across the metal bridge. On the other side of the metal bridge, turn left onto River Road and proceed to Smithfield Elementary on the left hand side of the roadway.
