ESASD 118.1 On Line Courses

Orientation

An orientation class will be provided for each student entering the Academy. It is strongly recommended that students take this class because all the policies will be explained during that time and questions will be answered. All students will be registered in a virtual orientation course as part of their schedule and may refer to this course at any time during the year for clarification on course setup.

Attendance

Students are required to log in to each scheduled class every day. Attendance will be recorded by 3pm each day. Attendance follows the district attendance policies as stated in policy 204. Students are required to send the district excuse notes for each day that a student is absent. Absences shall be treated as unlawful until the school district receives a written excuse explaining the absence, which must be submitted within three (3) days after the absence. Absent notes can be submitted via fax, email or delivered in person.

Physical Education Logs

If a student is scheduled to take a Physical Education course he/she will be given a PE Log to track the required number of hours per semester at orientation

Computer Package

A computer package consists of: 1 laptop computer, 1 printer, 1 headphone, 1 charger. All VA students may receive a computer package or any part of a computer package from the district. A student will receive these pieces after orientation at the main administration building.

E-mailing

All students will receive an e-mail address, user name and password on the day of orientation. Students must log into: http://students.esasd.net then enter their username and password. If this site does not work please call 570-424-8500 ext 1616 for technician help.

Grading

Every VA Course should have a link to students grades where individual assignments can be checked for completion and grading.
Current total grade for each course will be updated in Progressbook every Friday. If your grades are not updated in Progressbook, please contact your guidance counselor or administration immediately.

High School & Intermediate Students - If a student completes no work in a scheduled course he/she will be given an Unsatisfactory for that quarter and will be considered in danger of failing the course. It is expected that if a student receives a U in any quarter they will be responsible for making up the work in the next quarter. If a student fails any courses in Virtual Academy, they may be removed and asked to return to the East Stroudsburg building of residency.

Intermediate School- If a student fails 2 or 3 academic subjects for the year, summer school is required or the student is retained. If a student fails 4 or 5 academic subjects for the year, he/she is automatically retained.

Progress Report & Report Cards

All students will receive both interim progress reports and report cards.
Interim progress reports are sent at the midpoint of each marking period to indicate your child’s current grade.

Report cards are sent quarterly to the student’s recorded home address approximately one week following the end of each marking period. Be sure that your address is current.

If you don’t receive any or all progress reports, it is your responsibility to contact your guidance counselor or administration immediately.

Timelines

All students are expected to complete assignments in each scheduled subject according to a quarterly timeline suggested by the course teacher. All units and assignments will remain open throughout the semester and students will not be penalized for how long it takes to complete assignments. However, no student will be given extended time past the end of the semester to complete a course without prior administrative approval.
