Principal's Corner

  • Mr. Lenhart

My name is Ray Lenhart.  I am your new Principal at Middle Smithfield Elementary.  I would like to say with the utmost sincerity that I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be your Principal.  As the 2018-2019 school year quickly approaches, I am looking forward to working with each and everyone of you. I believe that my professional experiences have prepared me to be an effective instructional leader and to lead us in conquering any and all challenges that we may encounter.

First, I would like to take a take a moment to share some personal information with you.  I am happily married to my lovely wife, Ashley Lenhart. We have recently been blessed with our daughter, Mila Jordyn Lenhart.  My wife and I married in October 2016 and have been riding the “happiness train” ever since! We reside in Lehighton, Pennsylvania.

Secondly, I proudly share a few of the professional experiences that prepared me for my new role as your Principal.  I began my professional career in 2007 in Charles County Public Schools of Maryland as a special education teacher. While in CCPS, I spent 5 successful years as an educator at Maurice J. McDonough High School.  In 2012, I decided to return home to Lehighton, Pennsylvania, where I spent most of my younger years growing up. I continued my teaching career at Behavioral Health Associates. As a teacher, I taught students from grades 4th through 12th who experienced difficulties behaviorally and/or academically.   While at BHA, I earned the opportunity to become a Principal of my own program. My program served students from grades 2 through 12. In August, 2016, I became an Assistant Principal of Tamaqua Area High School. Tamaqua Area High School provided me endless opportunities for a plethora of growth and self-improvement.

Lastly, I would like to share some of my philosophy on education and the importance of serving our children the best we can.  It is vital to remember that the children that enter our school building are our future. We must do everything in our power to educate, inspire, model, and shape our students’ lives using best practices and all resources that we have.  As you know, everyday brings new challenges. We must be prepared, open, and willing to do all that is necessary to reach all children. With daily collaboration between home, community, and school, we will build a bright future for our children. The 2018-2019 school year will be fantastic school year! I cannot wait to begin! I look forward to meeting all of you very soon.
