From Awareness to Action: Student Workshops on Societal and Economic Equity

In Spring 2025, Gender Studies students engaged 95 peers and community members in raising awareness around key social justice issues.

Through a semester-long service project, students researched topics tied to the curriculum, planned and took action, reflected on their impact, and demonstrated their commitment to change. A celebration of their efforts will follow later this semester.

Their chosen topics included:

  • Inclusive leadership and DEI in the workplace

  • Discriminatory U.S. immigration policies and their ties to anti-DEI efforts

  • The impact of current policies on the LGBTQIA+ community

  • Bans on gender education and their effect on gender identity expression

  • Economic challenges faced by single parents

  • Wealth disparities affecting students in education
