JM Hill Elementary School Library Receives $3000 Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support Youth Literacy
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) recently awarded the JM Hill Elementary School Library a $3000 grant to support and improve its school library collection. This local grant is a part of more than $4 million recently awarded to nonprofit organizations, libraries and schools in Dollar General’s hometown communities across the country to help extend a brighter future for K-12 students.
Librarian, Kim Borden, utilized the grant money to purchase books that would improve the nonfiction section of the library. Mrs. Borden shares, “We were able to add 169 new nonfiction books to our collection, which is one of the most popular areas of the library. Students love learning about the world around them by exploring high-interest, high-quality texts. I am proud to be part of the JM Hill Family and continue to build a strong school library program that focuses on what our students need to be successful.”
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports organizations that increase access to educational programming, stimulate and enable innovation in the delivery of educational instruction and inspire a love of reading. Each year, DGLF awards funds to nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer and youth literacy programs. The Foundation also offers a student referral program for individuals interested in learning how to read, speak English, or prepare for the high school equivalency exam. Referrals to a local organization that provides free literacy services are available online or through referral cards found in the Learn to Read brochures that are available at the cash register of every Dollar General store.
