Over the past two and a half months, the students in Mr Toth's media design classes have been preparing for the Regional Media and Design Middle School competition. Going up against skilled competition from more middle schools in the region than ever before, your Cavaliers did an outstanding job and really proved domination in the media design competition yesterday.

In 3D Print and Design, second place was won by Tristan Davidge, Jaden Williams, and Sebastian Kubas. They created a project called the Volt Caster, which winds up Chromebook charging cables. Winning first place in the 3D print category were Chase Moskovitz and Liam Cunningham with a project inspired by securing Chromebook Chargers to the wall so they can't be stolen. This device, called the Wall Vault, was a sure winner and has a very useful design. A quick shout out to Mr. Lazowski for his help in printing this design.

In the digital movie category JTL students took third place in the price of popularity. This movie was created by Violet Kastner, Drea Janero, and Mackenzie Lanusse. Maddie Torres and Jillian Bryan took first place with a movie called Echoes of Enough, an amazing short story drama.

A website created by Michaela Rojo, Eva Koblinskij, and Marissa Pemberton came in third place and the title of that website is Practice Don't Panic. This website is about how to properly execute the various drills we have at JTL to keep students and staff safe. Calimina Wilms Crowley and Achia Kone produced a website for Mr. Fukula, which took second place at our competition yesterday. It has numerous pages and has an easy-to-navigate layout for the care of all living things in the 8th grade scienceteacher’s classroom.

Eric Achempong and Julian Guevara created an outstanding second place logo, which was titled Wired for Excellence PA 2027. First place for Logo and Design was Robbie Ramigno and Kayla Ludwig. Their logo was designed from a mistake in a sketch book so the project was called, From Doodle to Design. Excellent work to our logo creators this year on two unique designs that were well received at the competition.

In the animation category, JTL won 2 Awards. 3rd place, Sparks of passion was created by Jailen Louis and Jonas Potistio. The animation was based on a simple story of finding your passion in life and going for it. The first place winner was from JTL and was developed by Ariana Manter, Kadi Kone, and Madina Fall. It was called “When a Tree Falls” and told a story of a squirrel who struggles to find a home after he lost his tree to damaging weather.

Dom De Ressi, Jonathan Quinones, and Edwin Pintado created the water bowl Patrol. This Microbit driven project helps alert dog owners if the dog’s water bowl gets empty for their pet. The first place winner for programming goes to 7th graders, Skyler Runnel and Nahu Sandoval. These two created the Cavs PBIS Mission game. This was a cool game created for a Nintendo Game Boy emulator that Nahu has been working on for several months. It is a fun way to learn the meaning of the C, the a, the V And the s and their meanings for our JTL PBIS program. A shoutout to Mrs. Burns for her help with their project.

In Mr. Toth's 21 years of attending this competition with students, this was one of the most successful years on record. Out of 16 possible awards, JTL's team brought home 12 Awards total in the competition. JTL won 5 first place awards in 6 categories, and five groups will be headed to the State Level Competition on May 20th to compete against other regional winners. All 48 students had a great time at the competition. Mr. Del Vecchio, Mrs. Shemansky and Mr. Labar were also there to help support the students and Mr. Toth throughout the day. These chaperones made the setup of all projects an easy task. Congratulations to Mr. Toth and all 48 of his media design students on a job well done!
