Greetings and Opening Remarks – Paul Schmid
Old Business:
- Classroom education-dates
- Jtl March 29; ESU April 5 – There will be a Q and A with Michelle’s classes on March 29 as well a taste testing conducted by the FSD. Also, FSD will be presenting to a class on career paths at ESU in April.
- Admin review-update – Paul noted that the review will be in two schools during the month of April. Jennifer is finishing up the breakfast and lunch analysis for February 4-8th which is FSD test week. All requested paperwork required by PDE were submitted in January. The schools selected have not yet been announced by PDE.
- Chef in the school –dates – Michelle will be presenting in May to both the Resica and Middle Smithfield Schools in grades 5. After demonstrating making a healthy snack, the students will also be able to make the same for their own consumption. Recipes will be given to each student. After the presentation, Michelle will conduct a Q and A session.
- School Activities – Reports are available by request and have been scanned to this file. Reports were submitted by North, JTL, SM, and South. The group discussed their activities. American Heart, which had a good presence with the district has been quiet since their liaison relocated. Contact is going to be made to try to resurrect some of these activities.
- Taste Testing – FSD continues taste testing in both classes and in the cafeteria to find out what the students like and is in compliance with the regulations.
- Healthy Tips – ending – Paul mentioned that after 4 years of writing the Healthy Tip articles for the Food Services website that the program is coming to an end. There has been very little viewing of the articles, on average about 3 hits a week. There are enough articles left in the queue to publish till Dec 2019.
- Hunger Coalition (UW)
- 3rd Thursday 6 P NACC – The Pocono Mountain Hunger Coalition meets monthly at NACC. Paul went over the mission and vision of the group which is made up of food pantries, food banks (Second Harvest), ESASD, Meals on Wheels, Pocono Alliance, Salvation Army and United Way. Paul handed out copies of the goals and the most recent agenda. If any of the readers wish a copy of this, please email: paul-schmid@esasd.net
New Business:
- Open forum
- Craig spoke about the beverage machines in JTL cafeteria. He is looking to take them out as they seem to have minimal use.
- Craig also spoke about the back pack program. The program offers students to take home food for consumption during the weekend. Funding from Second Harvest for the back pack program has been earmarked to the Bethlehem SD. ESASD will have to wait until additional funding becomes available.
